Expert NFL Cappers – Conference Championship Projections

And then there were 4! The best teams in both the NFC and the AFC have been determined – they will lock horns this weekend to determine who will represent their respective Conferences in Super Bowl 49.

Conference Championship Pointspreads & Handicappers Insight

Both games are juicy to say the least – four of the five top quarterbacks in the universe will be in action in what promises to be a scintillating Sunday of NFL action.

Vegas has come out with the early odds – both home teams are favored by seven points. So which teams will cover and reward their backers with a nice payday? Let’s take a look.

Green Bay (13-4) at Seattle (13-4) – NFC Championship

When: 3:05 PM ET, Sunday, January 18, 2015
Where: CenturyLink Field, Seattle, Washington
2015 NFC Championship Point Spread: Seahawks -7
Matchup | Preview

A rematch of the famed Fail Mary game from last season and a Week 1 clash from this season is the first game on the slate Saturday. As two of the preseason favorites to make it to this Championship game, Sunday’s match figures to be one for the ages as Aaron Rodgers and his arsenal of receiving weapons will try to best Seattle’s insane secondary and the Seahawks tremendously well balanced offense.

Aaron Rodgers shrugged off an obvious calf injury to throw for 316 yards and three TDs against Dallas last week but the Seahawks are a completely different type of challenge – the Hawks top ranked defense and furious pass rush will certainly pose problems for the banged up QB.

We would be remissed if we didn’t mention Green Bay’s road woes this season – they are a decidedly different team away from Lambeau – Rodgers himself threw 13 TDs and five interceptions in eight road games this year.

Eddie lacy will be the difference in this game – he went for just 34 yards in the first meeting of the season but recently ran for 100+ against another top defensive team – Detroit in Week 17.

The Seahawks have been sensational the last half of the season – they ride a seven game win streak into Sunday and look every bit the Super Bowl favorite that Vegas has set. Against Carolina it was Russell Wilson and the passing game that made up for Carolina’s ability to largely shut down Marshawn Lynch – the Seattle offense will take what the defense gives and beat you any which way.

And then there is the defense that figures to give Aaron Rodgers and company fits. Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor each picked off Cam Newton on Saturday and the defense forced a fumble in the win. Seattle is allowing 15.9 points per game and 267 yards per contest – they are peaking at just the right time and are a nightmare for their opposition.

Seven points seems like a hefty spread but the Hawks should be able to cover in this one. Russell Wilson is scorching and the Seahawks were able to rumble for 207 yards on the ground in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

Pinnacle

If Seattle gets up early we can expect an immobile Aaron Rodgers to make a couple of mistakes that lead to points for the Hawks.

Seattle pulls away in the fourth quarter and covers the seven points.

Indianapolis (13-5) at New England (13-4) – AFC Championship

When: 6:40 PM ET, Sunday, January 18, 2015
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
2015 AFC Championship Point Spread: Patriots -7
Matchup | Preview

A rematch from a Week 11 game is on the horizon for the AFC Championship game – a match that the Pats won easily 41-20. The Colts however enter on a high after defeating the Broncos on the road last week 24-13 while the Pats were exposed just a bit in scratching out a win against Baltimore in the Divisional Round.

The biggest difference this time around is Indy’s defense – one that was gashed for 503 yards in the first meeting but has come around of late. The Colts held Peyton Manning to just 211 yards passing last week and held Andy Dalton to 155 yards through the air the week before.

Indianapolis has surrendered just 23 points in two playoff games so far – something that will have to continue Sunday.

Andrew Luck played OK in Week 11 – he threw for 303 yards and a TD in the loss and he will have the added benefit of Dan Herron who has run for 119 yards and two TDs in the Colts two playoff games.

The New England Patriots have the biggest X-factor in this game – Tom Brady who is money at Foxborough, especially in the playoffs. He went for 367 yards and 3 TDs in a come-from-behind win against Baltimore last week – he seems to be able to will his team to victories.

Brady passed for 267 yards and 2 TDs on just 30 attempts in the first meeting – New England’s running game dominated that contest to the tune of 246 yards.

Brady is going to have to be special in this game – he is getting little support from the running game that has gone cold. That said – is there any QB in the game you’d want your team to be relying on on the biggest stage?

Defensively, the Pats have to be better than they were last week – don’t they? Expect a bounceback game from this proud unit as they limit the effectiveness of a largely one-dimensional Indianapolis attack.

The Colts are 3-0 ATS in their last three games while the Patriots are 4-0 SU and 2-2 ATS in their last four home games against Indianapolis. Bill Bellichick is a master and won’t have to face his kryptonite Baltimore this week.

Expect the Pats race out to an early lead and force Andrew Luck into a few mistakes. Luck’s time is coming – just not yet!

The Colts are 3-0 ATS in their last three games.
